Playing Catch Up

Standard

Its almost here!!! Those days when it stays light longer, less clothes are worn, you don’t slip on your butt walking to your car, and COLOR!!! As life thaws out, more and more spring colors are popping up everywhere. Most of you who know me, are fully aware with my obsession with chartreuse. I know you can imagine how excited I was to get that tub of color and get to work.

Image

This is what came of my spring preparation. This incredible stools that I so badly want to take home, but of course I have no room. So they are here in the shop waiting for a good home to love them like I do.

I also recently added a gorgeous antique drop top desk. She’s a beaut, ain’t she?

Stay tuned!!! With warmer comes better working condition which only means….MORE FURNITURE!!!!!!!

Happy sunny day

New Furniture to “Fall” For

Standard

It jumped awfully quick from summer to almost winter weather!!. Leaving this morning with sleet falling from the sky was a wake up call! I have to get started on the preparations to ready myself to work in the garage in chilly weather conditions  (taking out my ski socks, my work jacket, hats and scarves). In the meantime, we got some new arrivals that can help ease us into the cooler weather transitions.

Pardon my alliteration, I couldn’t help myself.

Clunky To Functional Desk

Standard

My dear friend, Cory, has been in need of a desk. He and his girlfriend moved into a townhouse about a year ago and they don’t really have a “work area”. They are always complaining about having papers all over their kitchen, which is definitely not where they belong. We found a HUUUUUUGE desk. I am not exaggerating when I say that this desk must have weighed about 300 pounds. It took lots of strength, but Cory and I got that sucker loaded into Big Red. We brought it to the garage to get started.

Image

First of all, we discussed taking some weight off by trimming up the sides. After that, it was time to prime.

Cory wanted it black, and black it became. It will have some gold details but I just couldn’t wait to share it!!

In furniture news, I just delivered a dresser and bedside table last week. Because my head is all over the place, I didn’t take any pictures of the before except for one of the drawers. That particular drawer gave me some trouble. There was one knob that wouldn’t budge. It did not want to come off! We tried everything, and even after we stripped the screw, we continued to try everything we could. Finally, I had to perform some surgery. We got the knob off with minimal damage and replaced it with one that looked exactly like it. I really like the color that they chose, the pieces looked beautiful in their house!

“My Foot, Carl”

Standard

Ever since I have met Carl, he has said some interesting phrases. My favorite of them is “My foot, Leibow.” I hear this one quite often. So when Garett and I had the chance to make Carl’s birthday present, we ran with it.

Carl has been eyeing this craftmans toolbox of ours. He mentioned that he needed one for his fishing gear. Since Carl is probably the most difficult person to get gifts for, knowing what he actually wanted was a step in the right direction. Keeping him from going out to buy one was another task. We told Grace what we were doing and she did everything she could do to prevent him from going to the toolbox section at lowes or home depot.

Now time for the transformation. Having the toolbox in my workshop meant that it was pretty dirty.

Image

After some elbow grease, I got the toolbox cleaned up. I then picked a color paint that I think would like nice on their porch. It was quite difficult, but I went with a light celery color.

Image

Couldn’t stop with just the paint. I wanted it to be personalized…

We gave it to him and he seemed to really love it. Hopefully this will help keep his fishing gear organized!

Unique Antique

Standard

What a beautiful winter day…wait. Spring day? This snow has got me confused, but I did take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the snow yesterday. Perhaps I was taking it all in and hoping at the same time it would be the last snow of the season. I am ready for some warmer weather!

The past few weeks I have been working on this beautiful drop leaf dining room table. Beneath all of the wear and tear, it was a beautiful antique piece that could be saved.

Image

Image

Off to sand I went. I sanded, and sanded, and sanded some more. I finally got all of those scratched out of the tabe so I could start fresh.

Image

Because of the age of the piece, matching the stain exactly was a bit tricky. I got to mixing and came up with a very, VERY close match (in my opinion at least).

Reclaimed Coffee Table

Standard

It is finally done! I have been waiting and waiting to share with you Columbus Furniture Revival’s first custom made coffee table! After meeting with our client, we came up with an idea of having 3 pieces of wood as the table top, and the legs would be the same wood as the top on an angle.

After we had the idea, it was off to Capital City Millwork to look for wood. Wow! This has quickly become one of my favorite places in Columbus. Someone helped me find the perfect wood that would make my vision come to life.

Image

Off to work I went. I wish that I had taken pictures of the process, but Carl and I got so into it that pictures slipped my mind. We came up with a plan and surprisingly it all worked out EXACTLY how we thought it would. We kept one side “live” (the natural shape of the wood) to add extra character.

Image

We had decided on doing a grey white wash. The first time around it was a bit too white so we went a bit darker.

Makeover: Drab Bedroom Furniture

Standard

Wow what a busy week, and it is only Tuesday! We have lots of pieces that are getting finished up this week and we just delivered a wonderful bedroom set on Friday!

It was originally all black and a bit too dark for the room it was in. The owner of these pieces wanted a change. She wanted a more distressed look and in the grey family.

There is also a tall armoire but the before picture was too dark to post.

We first sanded and primed the pieces to get them ready to be painted

photo-4

After the paint color was chosen I didn’t waste any time. I got to painting, no doubt my favorite part!

Distressed the pieces and instantly a whole “new” bedroom set
