A Pop of Turquoise

Standard

It’s the last day to vote for Columbus Furniture Revival at growam.com

We should find out within the next week if all of the voting paid off! Thank you all for your support and for sticking with me while day in and day out I have been bugging you all to vote!

While we wait for the results, I wanted to share a recent dresser I refinished! I received a dresser from a client who wanted it to look pretty much completely different. She gave me a photo for inspiration and left the rest up to me.

She wanted a turquoise color paint with an antiqued finish. We reused the pulls and just gave them a new look and bought 4 knobs for the top drawer. It is definitely a piece that pops and I just love the color!!

Hope you all have a wonderful day and don’t forget to vote!!20130430-085342.jpg20130430-085505.jpg

Clunky To Functional Desk

Standard

My dear friend, Cory, has been in need of a desk. He and his girlfriend moved into a townhouse about a year ago and they don’t really have a “work area”. They are always complaining about having papers all over their kitchen, which is definitely not where they belong. We found a HUUUUUUGE desk. I am not exaggerating when I say that this desk must have weighed about 300 pounds. It took lots of strength, but Cory and I got that sucker loaded into Big Red. We brought it to the garage to get started.

First of all, we discussed taking some weight off by trimming up the sides. After that, it was time to prime.

Cory wanted it black, and black it became. It will have some gold details but I just couldn’t wait to share it!!

In furniture news, I just delivered a dresser and bedside table last week. Because my head is all over the place, I didn’t take any pictures of the before except for one of the drawers. That particular drawer gave me some trouble. There was one knob that wouldn’t budge. It did not want to come off! We tried everything, and even after we stripped the screw, we continued to try everything we could. Finally, I had to perform some surgery. We got the knob off with minimal damage and replaced it with one that looked exactly like it. I really like the color that they chose, the pieces looked beautiful in their house!

“My Foot, Carl”

Standard

Ever since I have met Carl, he has said some interesting phrases. My favorite of them is “My foot, Leibow.” I hear this one quite often. So when Garett and I had the chance to make Carl’s birthday present, we ran with it.

Carl has been eyeing this craftmans toolbox of ours. He mentioned that he needed one for his fishing gear. Since Carl is probably the most difficult person to get gifts for, knowing what he actually wanted was a step in the right direction. Keeping him from going out to buy one was another task. We told Grace what we were doing and she did everything she could do to prevent him from going to the toolbox section at lowes or home depot.

Now time for the transformation. Having the toolbox in my workshop meant that it was pretty dirty.

Image

After some elbow grease, I got the toolbox cleaned up. I then picked a color paint that I think would like nice on their porch. It was quite difficult, but I went with a light celery color.

Image

Couldn’t stop with just the paint. I wanted it to be personalized…

We gave it to him and he seemed to really love it. Hopefully this will help keep his fishing gear organized!
